MIJOY has been a fixture in the Niantic and Waterford community, and I’m rather stunned she’s gone and won’t return.

Work on ORION is wrapping up quickly as she is being put all back together.

It sure is nice to be back in the position of finishing projects and reassembling parts I had removed back in November.

I had forgotten exactly how much work it took to paint the deck and cockpit.

Before I completely removed the base of the old vent, I positioned the new vent on top just to see how it would fit. I couldn’t believe it - it’s too big!

Things are moving along as you can see by the list of tasks I hope to complete during the winter.

It was an absolutely rotten day, just like when she was launched back at the end of April, so I suppose it was only appropriate.

My heart went in my throat as I recalled reading stories of boats who had become dismasted when a shroud - upper or lower - failed in heavy winds.

I was able to post some pictures on the 2020 Sailing Page from the August Rendezvous and from another sail just this past weekend.

Everybody revved up their outboards and fought the swift incoming current to get out into Niantic Bay to start our sail eastward.

When I finally got to my parents’ house, my mouth dropped as I saw the boiling cauldron of the Niantic River, a sight I had never seen before.

I’m really looking forward to taking the helm of the Association once more and possibly exploring some new territory to advance the MCA and the Mariner.

I happened to spot the Coast Guard Barque Eagle at anchor and had the chance to sail right up to her.

This year's Rendezvous has been designed to adhere to these safe boating restrictions allowing members to sail with their families and friends yet maintain recommended social distancing guidelines stipulated by the state.

It has been a long time since I made a video promoting the Mariner Class Association.

I had a nice afternoon sail in the Niantic River with my wife and son, and I managed to take a couple of pictures even though I had my hands full most of the time.

I began a new 2020 Sailing page following ORION’s first sail, and more will certainly be added as the sailing season progresses.

It was late afternoon, and the dark clouds with the setting sun made some remarkable images which I tried to capture.
